Getting Started: Raftr Basics

What is Raftr?

Raftr is a phone app (and website) that helps college students connect with each other and the communities on campus while providing university oversight and control. Through our comprehensive events calendar, digital communities, and various social tools, users can explore what’s happening on campus, find their people, and discover the most of what your university has to offer.

Creating an Account

Creating an account with Raftr is incredibly simple! All you need is a smart phone or computer and an official university email address.

  • Step 1: Download Raftr from the App Store or Google Playstore (if you don’t have a smartphone head to raftr.com)
  • Step 2: Click the “Create an Account” button (or “Sign Up” if you’re on web)
  • Step 3: Enter your official university email address, name, graduation year, and create a secure password*
  • Step 4: Check your official university email for a verification email from Team Raftr (be sure to check your spam folder too) and follow the instructions in the email to verify your account.
  • Step 5: Sign into Raftr and start getting current on all things happening on campus (we suggest starting with the Explore page.)

*Note: Not all universities have an active Raftr account. If your school is not yet active, you will not be able to create an account, and will be redirected to request that your school be added.

Joining a Raft

The best place to discover new rafts to join is by checking out the Explore page in app or on the web. Think of this as a highlights reel for your university, and discover what other people on campus are most interested in.

If you hear about a raft from a friend on campus, but can’t find it on the explore page, you can also use the search feature in Explore to find it. (Note: If a raft is Secret you will not be able to find it in Explore or Search, and will need to get an invitation to join from a raft leader.)

To Join a Raft:

From the Explore or Search page, tap the raft you want to join, then simply click the “Join” button on the front page (you can also click the “+” button on a raft from the Explore page on web.)

If you decide to leave a raft, tap on the ‘Info’ icon in the upper right corner of the raft, then select “Leave Raft.”

Glossary of Terms

Raft:
A group within Raftr centered around a common topic or function. Rafts can include events, posts, private messages and other customization features.

Cross-Posting:  Cross-Posting is available when creating or editing an event in Raftr. This feature allows you to choose additional rafts for your event to show up on and expand your audience. Events can only be cross-posted to the What’s Happening and/or Free Food rafts, and users will be able to see which raft the event was originally posted on.

Interested:  Marking interested enables you to receive notifications and reminders about specific events. While all users can see how many people are interested in an event, only the event creator can see the list of everyone that plans on attending.

Reactions:  Reactions let you, well, react, to events and posts throughout Raftr to share your feelings quickly and efficiently, and see how others feel as well.
